RAYMOND TAN
Hi, I’m Raymond Tan — a self-taught baker based in Melbourne, known for making desserts that mix nostalgia, creativity, and a love of Southeast Asian flavours.
I grew up in Selangor, Malaysia, and had actually never turned on an oven before moving to Australia in 2006. What started as a hobby quickly turned into an obsession, and before long, I was sharing my experiments online. My wedding cakes, tailored dessert table,, decorated fortune cookies and cake popsicles somehow found their way around the world, featured by Vogue and even the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
In 2019, I started Raya Bakery, a space to explore bold, playful bakes inspired by the flavours I grew up with. In 2025, I opened Dua, a Scandinasian bakery that brings together the warmth of Malaysian traditions with Nordic simplicity. I also co-own Nimbo, an inventive dessert café that keeps me constantly dreaming (and tasting).
When I’m not in the kitchen, I’m also a fine artist — my work has been shown at Tolarno Galleries — and I love finding ways for both worlds to meet through colour, texture, and form.
